Glamping in Mendocino

Glamping - A fusion of glamour and camping - offers outdoor enthusiast an upgrade on rest and recreation. Whether in a tent, yurt, airstream, pod, igloo, hut, villa, cabin, cube, teepee or treehouse, glamping is a way to experience the great outdoors without sacrificing luxury.

The New Mendocino Campground is a camping experience that appeals to a broader range of people who are attracted to the idea of camping but turned off by the hassles of packing the car, pitching a tent, waking up achey and having to break camp to re-load the car. The season opens in April but pre-booking starts in December.

Think campingplus:

Bring your cooler (or buy provisions in town), really warm clothes are nice in the evening - especially a ski hat - where temperatures can be in the low 50s, a new bottle of sunscreen and mosquito repellent can’t hurt.

Like camping, you'll be taking a break from:

Central heating, using your blow dryer, electricity to charge more than a phone, dependable wi-fi (you will have cell reception), long showers and “sound” privacy – (the tent walls are canvas so we request quiet after 10pm).

Unlike traditional camping, you can expect:

Beautifully furnished tents complete with comfy beds, nice linens, pillows and a lantern for reading. Tents are generously spread apart, with the exception of our village view tents.

Continental breakfast

Newly renovated bathroom facilities with towels, and high quality bath products from EO Marin. Wow!

- Full use of the BBQs: two areas complete with gas grills, work tables and cooking utensils.

Pre-trip planning:

Canoe & Mountain Bike Rental, Camping on a bluff above Big River this is a great place to mountain bike and canoe. To rent either, contact Catch-A-Canoe boat and bike rental early as they tend to sell out quickly.

- Restaurant Reservations, Campground cooking is a classic but a one night dining adventure in town can be fun! Here are some of our favorites:

Cafe Beaujolais (707) 937-5614

Flow (707) 937-3569

Mendocino Cafe (707) 937-6141

Mendocino Hotel (707) 937-0511

Trillium - (707) 937-3200

Good Life Cafe & Bakery (707) 937-0836

The best ice cream is made in Fort Bragg at Cowlicks and sold at Frankies in the town of Mendocino.  Raspberry Chocolate Chunk and Pistachio Cardamon are favorites!

Restaurants a little farther away but worth the drive: Wild Fish

- Provisions, You can easily buy all of your provisions in town at the well stocked Harvest Market at Mendosa’s; they have a great butcher, deli, fruit and veggies. We also love Corners of the Mouth health food store and the Farmers Market on Fridays
