The third weekend in March is the last whale festival weekend in Fort Bragg. March 17 and 18th.
On Saturday March 17, grab a bowl for the grand Chowder Tasting & Competition taking place at Masonic Hall at 428 Main Street. Local chefs and restaurants pit their chowder recipes against each other and the winner is you! Thirsty? You can get a taste of North Coast Brewing Company’s North Coast Stellar IPA! Local wineries will be showcasing their wines at various venues in downtown Fort Bragg. Maps will be provided.
There are lots of outdoors activities to participate in. Join the Whale Walks at MacKerricher State Park which is an ideal location for watching the gray whale migration. Stop at the Visitor Center to check out the gray whale skeleton and learn about these amazing creatures of the deep. Or, on Sunday March 18, help the staff preserve the skeleton at a work day.
Join State Parks for an exciting lecture given by a guest speaker about the whales of the Pacific. Refreshments, interactive activities and a raffle to take place at the time of the lecture.
